Avia BH 5 02, is the second piece built. It’s close replica to original airplane from 1923. It’s not only built in the same dimensions, from the same materials using the same construction procedures, but also original parts were used. In our case it’s primarily original engine from 1923, installation and some board equipment. By building Avia BH 5, we have (as first in the Czech Republic or former Czechoslovakia) “got in air” the true replica of historical airplane. Our cooperation with the Civil aviation authority of the Czech Republic during the construction and certification set rules and opened path for building another replicas of historic aircrafts in our country.
We conducted the construction itself after developing 2/3 of the engineering documentation and calculations of the aircraft structure in August, 2003. The drawings were prepared based on fragments of the original (only about 1/4 was preserved) and historic photographs. We finished the raw building of fuselage in July, 2004. In the half of 2007, after working 17000 hours, we finalized the building of Avia AH 5. During the construction of the aircraft, we once again calculated aerodynamic and static figures of the aircraft based on JAR – VLA rules. Because we used former engine Walter NZ 60, the aircraft is run in EXPERIMENTAL category. The replica construction process of Avia BH 5 was supervised by professional company and the Civil aviation authority. On Friday, 1st July 2007, Avia BH 5 once again started after 82 years and commenced new difficult testing program. We have successfully finalised the testing program after four months and more than 25 flight hours.
